Emma Powers was the first American woman to graduate from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in the class of Professor V. A. Potashkina. She has performed with the Oregon Ballet Theatre in Giselle, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker. Born and raised in San Francisco, California, she began her dance training at age eight at the City Ballet School of San Francisco under Galina Alexandrova, Lupe Calzadilla, and Yuri Zhukov. She also trained at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, under Marcia Dale-Weary, Darla Hoover, Laszlo Berdo, and at the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre under Damara Bennett. With Silicon valley Ballet (previously known as Ballet San Jose) she has performed in George Balanchine's Serenade, Roland Petit's Carmen, and Karen Gabay's The Nutcracker.
